Carmel Man Faces Child Porn Charges: Putnam Sheriff

A search warrant turned up 75 electronic devices in his home, police said.

CARMEL, NY — A Carmel man faces accusations of possessing pornographic child exploitation videos. After a yearlong investigation, Jason J. Dance has been charged with three felony counts of Possessing an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child.

In August 2018, investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of
Criminal Investigation were told by members of the United States Department of Homeland Security that they had been monitoring an IP address for the possessing of child exploitation videos.

In conjunction with Homeland Security, PCSO investigators conducted an investigation that led to a 44-year-old Carmel resident, Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley, Jr. said.

On Oct. 11, 2018 the investigators obtained a search warrant for a residence in Carmel. The warrant was executed the next day and a large amount of electronic devices were seized (over 75 items). The Putnam Sheriff's Office was assisted during the search by Westchester County Police and Homeland Security.

Over the next several months, the investigators conducted a thorough analysis of the
electronic devices that were seized and identified the computer and user responsible for possessing the child exploitation video files.

As a result, on Oct. 1, 2019, Dance was arrested after surrendering to PCSO members with his attorney. He was arraigned by Town of Carmel Justice Thomas Jacobellis. He was released on his own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
