Here’s the full text of the Crossroads 312 press release:
The proposed Crossroads 312 project has announced they
expect to bring a total of 700 new jobs to the Putnam County area.
The proposed project, in the Town of Southeast, would create 143,000 square feet of
retail and restaurant space with a 100-room hotel located on just over 50 acres of
land at the intersection of NYS Route 312 and Interstate 84.
A total of 391 full time jobs, 158 part time jobs and 150 construction jobs are
expected to be created, pending town approval. The jobs will range from
construction, retail, food service, hospitality and more.
The proposed project will have an overall positive effect on the Town of Southeast
and Putnam County. The Final Environmental Impact Statement estimates that the
proposed project will generate approximately $1,756,268 in property taxes.
Providing additional local shopping opportunities would also serve as a new means
for the community to collect sales tax dollars. According to the Putnam County
Economic Development Corporation, the project is expected to generate more than
$3.5 million annually in sales tax revenue.
Local business leaders have also voiced their support of this project, which is slated
to bring hundreds of jobs and millions in tax revenue to Southeast and Putnam
County.
“The Crossroads 312 project has the potential to create hundreds of jobs, increase
the commercial tax base and create a hotel which can further put Putnam County on
the tourism map in New York,” said Putnam County Economic Development
Corporation President Meghan Taylor at a November 20, 2014 Southeast Town
Board meeting.
“A hotel in Southeast, in an area with several restaurants and desirable shopping
choices would be a home run for all involved! We’ve developed great partnerships and I would love to have a Southeast lodging partner,” said Meryl DiDio, the
Marketing and Officer Manager at Thunder Ridge Ski Area in Patterson, in a letter of
support.
“As President of the Board of Directors of the United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of
Putnam/Southern Dutchess, I have seen firsthand how many local businesses write
company check benefiting the UCP during our fundraising efforts to support the
disabled community. I suggest and strongly urge that the Town of Southeast
reciprocate and support private businesses when a sensible and timely application
comes before it that will benefit the entire community,” said former Putnam County
Executive Peter Alexanderson in a letter of support.
The project developers have been sensitive to traffic issues and have developed a
plan to mitigate traffic congestion. Crossroads 312 has proposed an Intelligent
Transportation System (ITS) infrastructure, which would help to optimize traffic
signal operations, provide better coordination between signals and improve the
overall progression of traffic throughout the Route 312 corridor to reduce stops and
delays.
The project developers have also worked with the local police and fire departments
to ensure that safety is the number one priority in the planning stages of the
Crossroads 312 project.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, along with the New York State Police provide
primary police services to the entire town of Southeast. The State Police, on average,
have 1 to 3 patrols dedicated to Southeast during the daytime and 1 to 2 patrols
overnight. The Sheriff’s Office has a minimum of two patrols assigned to the area of
the county where the proposed project would be built.
The Town of Southeast will be hosting a public hearing regarding proposed zoning
changes for the project on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 7PM at the Southeast
Town Hall located at 360 Route 22, Brewster, NY 10509.
