Danbury Man Faces Drug, DWI Charges in Southeast

SOUTHEAST, NY — A Danbury man faces drug and drunk-driving charges in Putnam County, according to New York State Police. He was also driving without a valid license, police said.
Troopers arrested Alvaro Matias, 27, on Sept. 16. They said they were on State Route 6 when they saw a vehicle moving from its designated lane unsafely and crossing hazardous markings.
They stopped the car, and while interviewing the driver, they observed what appeared to be crack cocaine in the vehicle. They allege Matias was intoxicated and in possession of 15 small bags of crack cocaine as well as 17 small bags of cocaine.

He was placed under arrest for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree with Intent to Sell a Class B Felony, Driving While Intoxicated a Misdemeanor, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 3rd Degree a Misdemeanor.
Matias was arraigned at the Town of Southeast Justice Court and remanded to Putnam County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 property bond. If waived, Matias is next scheduled to appear before the Town of Southeast Justice Court on Sept. 19.
