Firefighters Battle Brush Fires In Hudson Highlands

All hiking trails in the state park are closed until further notice.

HUDSON HIGHLANDS, NY — An enormous brush fire in the Hudson Highlands brought many agencies into the steep and rocky terrain Monday and overnight. The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation said all hiking trails in the state park are closed.

Cold Spring Fire along with Dutchess Junction Fire were dispatched to a brush fire along the train tracks in the area of the tunnel at 1:45 p.m. Monday.

Cold Spring Fire Company officials said first responders arrived to find a large brush fire on both sides of the tunnel that also had multiple vehicles involved.

Many departments from Dutchess County were called for brush trucks and tankers. Along with North Highlands Fire, Garrison Fire, Continental Village Fire, Putnam Valley Fire and Philipstown Ambulance. Firefighters worked together to extinguish the vehicle fires and brush fire along 9D and the train tracks.

Fire on the mountain was being handled by New York State Park Rangers and New York State Park staff.

The fire caused delays on Metro-North's Hudson Line and closed Route 9D off and on.
