SOUTHEAST, NY — A crash that snarled traffic on I-84 for more than an hour Wednesday morning was a rear-end collision. A New York City man was seriously injured and a Putnam County man also went to the hospital.

The crash happened at 10:26 a.m. in the town of Southeast. Preliminary investigation suggests Bubacarr Dukureh of the Bronx was driving a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo west on I-84 between exits 19 and 20, and was either stopped or coming to a stop in the lane, New York State police said.

The Rodeo was then struck in the rear by a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 van, operated by Christopher J. Saas of Patterson.

Both drivers were transported by emergency medical services to Danbury hospital. As of July 18, Dukureh, 55, is being treated for serious injuries. Saas, 50, sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The westbound lanes were closed for over an hour due to the collision with traffic moving slowly on the shoulder, police said.
