Man Facing Child Porn Charges ID'd As Son Of Sheriff's Former Rival

Robert Langley III was named in a news release under a new rule changing Putnam Sheriff's Office arrest report procedures.

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY β€” The son of the former Putnam County Sheriff is accused of possessing and sharing child porn, Sheriff Kevin McConville said Friday in a news release.

Robert L. Langley III, of Mahopac, NY, faces four felony charges of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child.

The investigation began in March when the Sheriff's Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation received information from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force that images and videos of child sexual abuse material were being shared online from a residence in Carmel, according to the news release. BCI Investigators executed a search warrant at the residence on May 25.

The Sheriff's Office did not say when he was charged. He was arraigned in Carmel town court. The Sheriff's Office did not release the date of the arraignment.

It was just this week that the Sheriff's Office announced that it was changing its policy against putting names in its news releases about people who have been charged with crimes.

Investigators in the Sheriff's Office worked collaboratively on the investigation with the Putnam County District Attorney's Office, FBI Safe Streets Task Force, and New York State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the news release said.

McConville ousted former Putnam Sheriff Robert Langley Jr. in a contentious race that was the biggest contest in Putnam County elections in 2021.
