Putnam County Reacts To Supreme Court Justice's Death
The County Executive issued a statement and a group held a candlelight vigil.

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — Upon learning of the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, some county residents held a vigil and the Putnam County Executive issued a statement.
MaryEllen Odell said that “Notorious RBG,” as the justice became known in her later years, was a fantastic role model for women leaders everywhere.
“Ruth Bader Ginsburg was known as a pioneer of women’s rights, and she was that,” the county executive said. “But by fighting for women to be treated equally under the laws of our country, she brought about greater freedoms for all. We mourn her passing."

Members of Putnam Valley 4 Racial Justice organized a candlelight vigil for Ginsberg in front of the historic Putnam County Court House in Carmel Saturday. It was one of many around the country.
Two dozen red and white roses were placed around art and candles from the 60 people in attendance, and remembrances and encouragement were shared by the organizers, community members, a faith leader and a state senator.

"Despite the occasional revving engine or passing yells the vigil was very safe with everyone in attendance masked and socially distanced. Some left inspiring messages in chalk before peacefully departing," said Ilyanna Garcia-Alicea and Frederick Cole Caulfield.
