Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy Stabbed, Undergoes Surgery: Update

He underwent emergency surgery to repair a severed artery.

UPDATE— A Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy who was stabbed while investigating a disturbance in the town of Putnam Valley Monday morning suffered a severed artery.

The artery was repaired but he may need to undergo additional surgeries, said Putnam County Sheriff Robert Langley said.

Sheriff’s Office Deputies had responded to a disturbance at a residence in Putnam Valley at 10 a.m. Jan. 20. When they arrived, a man confronted them with a knife. One of the deputies was stabbed, Langley said.

He was taken to NewYork Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital Center for emergency surgery.

After the deputy was out of surgery, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office posted its thanks on Facebook to the community, NY State Police, Town of Carmel Police, Westchester County Police and the City of Peekskill Police. "We would also like to thank the Hudson Valley Hospital Center for all their support during this time. And thank you to everyone who has sent good wishes his way. It worked!"

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — A Putnam County Sheriff's Office Deputy was stabbed Monday morning after responding to an altercation in Putnam Valley, Putnam County Sheriff Robert Langley said.

The attack took place on Peekskill Hollow Road. The deputy was transported to a local hospital and is in surgery. The man accused of the stabbing was taken into custody, Langley said.
