Putnam Sheriff: DWI Charge For Danbury Man Who Ran Stop Sign

A sheriff's deputy checking out the pickup truck found an open bottle of vodka and a jar of marijuana, police allege.

SOUTHEAST, NY — A Danbury man faces DWI charges after driving erratically and blowing past a stop sign in front of a Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy, Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley Jr. reported.

Deputy Amanda Collier was on Sodom Lane in Southeast at 12:48 a.m. Jan. 20 when she saw a pickup truck coming toward her cross over the double yellow line and then run a stop sign. She stopped the pickup and interviewed the driver, 62-year-old Bruce W. Staszewski. She concluded that he was intoxicated.

A subsequent search of the truck turned up an open bottle of vodka and a jar full of marijuana, police said.

Staszewski was arrested on the scene without incident and charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated for having a Blood Alcohol Content in excess of 0.18 percent, Driving While Intoxicated, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and other related charges.

He was processed and booked at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and issued an appearance ticket for a future date in the Town of Southeast Justice Court.
