Putnam Valley Man Accused of Purse, Credit Card Theft

The incident occurred in Carmel, the county sheriff's office said.

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Putnam Valley man on felony charges following a criminal investigation.

A Carmel resident reported Dec. 5 that her purse and credit cards had been stolen from her vehicle overnight.

Investigators discovered that the perpetrator had used the stolen credit cards to purchase merchandise at various locations.

The investigation revealed a suspect: Thomas Reilly, 21, of 426 Pudding Street, Putnam Valley.

On December 12, 2015, members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) located and arrested Reilly, who was charged with Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree and with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree, felonies.

He was arraigned before Town of Carmel Justice Joseph Spofford and committed to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 cash or bond pending a future court appearance.

If found guilty of the felony charges, the defendant could face up to four years in a New York State Correctional Facility and a fine of up to $5,000.
