Remembering 9/11 In Putnam County
Many ceremonies marking the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks are being held virtually this year due to the new coronavirus pandemic.
There are events around the Hudson Valley commemorating the lives lost during the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, as well as those who died because of illnesses related to the attacks.
Putnam County has its commemoration on Friday.
A Mass of Remembrance at St. James The Apostle Church will start at 7 p.m. and can be watched on YouTube. There will be no congregants at the service

The Putnam Heroes Memorial Committee will livestream this year's ceremony, which will begin at 8 p.m. at Cornerstone Park.
The park will only be open to those involved in the actual ceremony and its production.

This year will see the addition of Commissioner Robert McMahon, Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services, to the memorial. A tree that was a seedling from the World Trade Center Survivor Tree will be dedicated to the healthcare workers, emergency and essential services and the volunteers who fought to keep the community healthy, safe and sustained during the pandemic.
