Scam Alert: Text Scams Tout Carmel & Brewster Police Hoodies

CARMEL/BREWSTER, NY — The Carmel Police Department and the Village of Brewster Police Department both issued scam alerts to the public because of a text that is going around.

In a Facebook post, the Carmel Police Department warned, "SCAM ALERT: Please be aware if you receive a text with an ad for $10 off a Carmel PD hoodie, this is a SCAM. Please do not click the link or send money."

The Village of Brewster Police Department also posted a message on Facebook: "SCAM ALERT. If you get a text message that states 'Dear (your name), Brewster Police Department hoodies 10$ OFF ready to order now..." followed by a link, DO NOT click the link or provide any personal information. This is NOT our Department. There are many of these scams going around so be careful about what links you click on. BREWSTER POLICE DEPARTMENT."
