SUV Hits Sheriff's Investigator Directing Traffic On Route 6

The victim was taken to Danbury Hospital with serious injuries Saturday night.

MAHOPAC, NY โ€” An member of the Putnam County Sheriff's Department investigations team was hospitalized after being hit by an SUV while directing traffic Saturday night on Route 6. He sustained serious but non-threatening injuries, said Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley Jr.

The victim was hit by the SUV, which police said was speeding, at about 7:38 p.m. outside Villa Barone Hilltop Manor.

The Carmel town Police Department conducted an investigation of the incident. As a result, the driver of the SUV, a Mahopac resident, was issued three summonses: for disobeying an order from a police officer, for failure to exercise due care when approaching an emergency vehicle and for speeding.

Due to the injuries and the mechanism of injury, he was transported to Danbury Hospital by the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Departmentโ€™s ambulance.

Sheriff Langley thanked the Town of Carmel Police Department, the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department and the staff at the Danbury Hospital along with the members of the Putnam County Sheriffโ€™s Department for their professionalism in the handling of this incident.
