Southeast, Brewster Election Results 2016: Putnam Legislature, State Senate, Assembly

BREWSTER, NY — Registered voters in Southeast chose a county legislator and county judge as well as candidates for president and vice president, United States senator, state Supreme Court Justices and representatives to U.S. Congress, state Senate and state Assembly.
In the 18th Congressional District, with all districts reporting as of 2 a.m., Sean Patrick Maloney was elected to a third term, receiving 149,056 votes to Phil Oliva's 120,967 votes, according to unofficial results from the New York State Board of Elections.
In State Senate District 4o, with 320 of 330 districts counted, as of 12:10 a.m. incumbent Terrence Murphy had 73,306 votes and challenger Alison Boak had 51,755 votes, according to unofficial results from the New York State Board of Elections.

With 130 of 135 election districts counted in Assembly District 95, incumbent Sandra Galef had 31,860 votes and challenger Gregory Purdy had 14,911 votes as of 11:46 p.m., according to unofficial results from the New York State Board of Elections.
In State Senate District 41, with 261 of 271 districts reporting, Susan Serino led with 61,414 votes, while Terry Gipson trailed in his attempt to take the seat back, receiving 46,795 votes, according to unofficial results from the New York State Board of Elections as of 10:40 p.m.
With 126 of 187 election districts reporting in State Assembly District 94, Republican Kevin Byrne has 19,506 votes, while Brian Higbie trails with 10,039 votes, according to unofficial results from the New York State Board of Elections.
U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer is the projected winner in his re-election campaign, with 77 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results from the New York State Board of Elections at 9:45 p.m.
Putnam County experienced a heavy turnout, with long lines in polling places such as Lake Carmel, where the line snaked around the basement at St. James Catholic Church.
The county could experience its heaviest voter turnout ever by the time polls close. A county Board of Elections employee told Eric Gross of the Putnam County Courier she had never seen such a turnout.
The key to party affiliations: D = Democratic, R = Republican, C = Conservative, WF = Working Families, G = Green, IND = Independence, LBT = Libertarian, WEP = Women’s Equality Party and REF = Reform.

For President of the United States
The candidates for president and vice president are Republicans Donald Trump and Mike Pence, Democrats Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine, Libertarians Gary Johnson and Bill Weld and Green Party Jill Stein and Ajamu Baraka.
For U.S. Senate
New York’s senior Senator Chuck Schumer (D) faces three challengers: Wendy Long (R), Alex Merced (L), and Robin Laverne Wilson (G).
For United States Congress
District 18 includes all of Putnam and Orange counties; plus southwestern Dutchess including East Fishkill, Fishkill, Wappinger, Poughkeepsie town and city, and Beacon; and in Westchester, Somers, Pound Ridge, Bedford, North Salem, Lewisboro and part of North Salem.
Incumbent Sean Patrick Maloney (D) is seeking a third term. He faces Republican Phil Oliva, a top advisor to Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino who beat out five others for the Republican line, and Independent Scott Smith in the general election.

For New York State Senate
State Senate District 40 includes parts of Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties, including the towns of Beekman, Carmel, Cortlandt, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, Mount Pleasant, New Castle, North Salem, Patterson, Pawling, Pound Ridge, Somers, Southeast, Yorktown; and the city of Peekskill. First-term incumbent Terrence Murphy (R-C-IND-REF) is seeking re-election. He is challenged by Alison Boak (D-WF). The two have run a contentious campaign.
State Senate District 41 is comprised of Dutchess County, with the exception of the towns of Beekman and Pawling, and the towns of Philipstown, Putnam Valley and Kent in Putnam County. Incumbent Susan J. Serino (R-C-IND-REF) is being challenged by Terry Gipson (D-G-WF-WEP), the previous incumbent whom Serino beat last time around.
For New York State Assembly
Assembly District 94 includes part of Putnam, including Carmel, Patterson, Putnam Valley and Southeast; and part of northern Westchester, including Yorktown and Somers. With Steve Katz not seeking re-election, there were several people interested in running for the seat. Kevin Byrne, a former aide to former Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, won the Republican primary and faces off against Democrat Brian M. Higbie.
In Assembly District 95, which includes the towns of Philipstown and Kent in Putnam County; and Ossining, Cortlandt and Peekskill in Westchester, Democrat and longtime incumbent Sandy Galef is challenged by Republican Greg Purdy.
Supreme Court, 9th Judicial District
Three people are running unopposed for three seats: Linda Jamieson, (D-R-WF-IND), Janet Malone (D-R-WF-IND), and Thomas E. Walsh II (D-R-WF-IND).
For Putnam County Legislature
There are three seats up in the Putnam County Legislature, but only one is contested.
In the sixth district, which includes the eastern and northern parts of Southeast, Democrat Jen Cassidy and Republican Paul Jonke are vying for the seat vacated when Roger Gross decided not to seek another term.
In District 5, Carl Albano is unopposed for re-election. In district 9, a newcomer, Neal Sullivan, is unopposed. Both are Republicans.
For Putnam County Court Judge
Republican incumbent James Reitz faces a challenge from Democrat Gina Capone.
For Brewster Village Board
The Brewster village election is unopposed, with Mary Bryde and Tom Boissonnault running for re-election.
