Victim ID'd In Wednesday's Fatal Crash On I-84

Traffic was snarled for hours after a car crossed from the east- to westbound lanes and hit a tractor-trailer.

SOUTHEAST, NY — New York State Police have released the name of the man who died Wednesday in a fatal crash on Interstate 84 in Putnam County. The collision at 3:30 p.m. involved a passenger vehicle and a tractor trailer.

The operator of the passenger vehicle, Donovan S. Grant, 63, of Queens, NY, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said their initial investigation suggests Grant, driving a Jeep Liberty, was traveling on the Interstate 84 eastbound entrance ramp from Interstate 684 northbound.

For reasons police said were unknown at this time, Grant veered off the entrance ramp and crossed the eastbound lanes and the center median before entering the westbound Interstate 84 lanes and striking a tractor trailer.

The New York State Police were assisted on scene by EMStar Medical Transportation, the Village of Brewster Fire Department, the Putnam County Coroner’s Office, and New York State Department of Transportation.
