Visitation, Service for Police Officer Gary Pietropaolo

The Fishkill resident was killed June 7 in a motorcycle crash.

CARMEL, NY — Visitation and services have been announced for Gary Pietropaolo, the Carmel police officer who was killed when his motorcycle was struck on Route 301 Thursday.

A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, June 11 at Cargain Funeral Homes, Inc. at 418 Route 6 in Mahopac. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12 at St. James the Apostle R.C. Church, 12 Gleneida Ave. in Carmel. Interment will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made In Memory of Gary to the Carmel PBA, PO Box 101, Mahopac, NY 10541.

Pietropaolo collided with a postal van that was pulling out of a driveway, police said. He was pronounced dead at Putnam Hospital Center.

The 29-year-old Fishkill resident had followed in his father's footsteps to become a cop.

The Carmel Police Department released a statement last week:

"The Carmel Police Department is extremely saddened by the loss of Officer Gary Pietropaolo. Officer Pietropaolo was a talented young man who took great pride in being a Carmel Police Officer. His tenacity for law enforcement was unparalleled and admired by his peers. Gary had been with the Carmel Police Department since March of 2016 and previously worked as a Police Officer with the SUNY New Paltz police department. Gary was well liked and respected by all of his fellow officers and colleagues and will be sorely missed. The entire Town of Carmel extends its deepest sympathies to his family, fiancé and friends and wish them peace as they move through this difficult time."
