📰 News we're reading

• For Years, 9/11 Was Something Students Lived. The story explores how Stony Brook and other universities now frame 9/11 for a generation born afterward, balancing emotional material, state curriculum requirements, and the need to counter online conspiracy theories.

• BNL to Lead $14M AI Project for Nation's Electric Grid Through Genesis Mission (stonybrook.edu) — Stony Brook University researchers are key partners in a new $14.2 million federal project to use artificial intelligence to modernize the nation’s electric grid, alongside Brookhaven Lab and New York utilities. Their work will help simulate billions of grid scenarios to improve reliability, affordability, and resilience, while another Stony Brook-led Genesis Mission project targets hyperlocal flood and precipitation risks for U.S. energy systems.
