So…I’ve been writing songs for almost forty years. Actually, I write just the words. I’m a lyricist. A pretty good one…if I say so myself! I’ve co-written pop songs, country songs, children’s songs, ballads, novelty songs…you name it…I’ve written it! I’ve worked with many different composers; some, I’ve been good friends with…and some I connected with on LinkedIn, but never met in person. I absolutely LOVE writing songs!
I’m very happily married (for the second time) to a wonderful man who has worked his entire adult life behind a desk. Larry’s been an executive at a public company, and now he enjoys working at home. He is handsome and charming as well as very successful in business. One day recently, as I was playing one of my YouTube songs on my computer, he said to me, “You know…I could write a melody for you!” “WHAT?” I said incredulously. “You don’t even play an instrument! How can you write a melody?” He said, “Really…I get these melodies in my head, and I can just sing them to you…and then you can write the lyrics!” “Yeah, right”, I said. “How am I gonna do that?” And we laughed and went out to dinner.
And then – the next day – it occurred to me that there was a thing online called Virtual Piano. I went on the website and saw that you can make the keyboard on the screen correspond to the letters from the keyboard of your computer. Larry sat down next to me and literally sang “bum…ba…bum…bum…bum”, and I typed the notes he was singing on the Virtual Piano. It sounded pretty good! After a couple of hours, we had a really nice melody. The words just popped out of me (which usually happens when I have a nice tune), and now we had a song which we wrote together! Rogers and Hammerstein…look out! Here comes Blake and Franklin!

I made a few calls to local recording studios, and I met with one I really liked. It was the best studio under the sun! (Actually, the name of the studio is Beneath The Sun!) At our first meeting we were able to actually get the basic music track down. Mick, the studio guy, recommended Deanna Carroll, a wonderful female vocalist, and last week she recorded our song. A few days later – after Mick had added strings, organ, and other instruments – we went back to the studio and heard the finished product. We’re both thrilled and excited. The song is extremely important to us…even if it’s NEVER a hit! The title, appropriately, is “I NEED MORE TIME WITH YOU”. Please, everyone…listen to it! Make it be Number 1!
