Man Tasered After Trying to Take Officer's Gun During Arrest: Cops

Two Nassau officers were treated at the hospital after a 43-year-old man resisted arrest Friday night, police say.

SYOSSET, NY - A Syosset man was tasered after trying to steal an officer's gun while he was being arrested in Syosset Friday afternoon, Nassau Police said.

Officers responded to a Berry Hill Road home for a domestic disturbance at about 1:08 p.m. The suspect violated an order of protection and broke a 36-year-old woman's cellphone, police said.

While investigating the incident, 43-year-old David Abbondondolo, returned home. As officers were attempting to place him under arrest, Abbondondolo began to fight with them, police said.

During the struggle, he tried to remove one of the officer’s firearms from its holster, police said.

He was then tasered and was placed into custody, police said.

Both officers were transported to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries. One officer suffered a chest injury and the other suffered a hand injury, police said. Both officers were treated and released.

Abbondondolo is charged with two counts of second degree assault, attempted robbery, third degree criminal mischief, first degree criminal contempt of court and resisting arrest, police said.

He will be arraigned on Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
