Nassau Police Warn Residents of Online Scams
Check out tips from police on avoiding scams when online shopping.

Nassau County Police are warning residents to be careful when making purchases through social media websites such as Craigslist, eBay and Let it Go.
According to police, while the overwhelming majority of users are trustworthy, with billions of human interactions facilitated, the incidence of violent crime is extremely low.
However, police are still advising residents to proceed with caution when meeting someone for the first time.

Check out some tips from police on making safe online purchases:
- Insist on a public meeting place, preferably indoors with other people around.
- Do not meet late at night, or in a secluded place.
- Never invite strangers into your home.
- Be especially careful when buying/selling high value items.
- Tell a friend or family member where you're going.
- Consider having a friend accompany you.
- Trust your instincts.
This information is being provided to residents to make them aware of these ongoing scams, police said.
