Nassau Police Increasing Patrols Following Deadly London Parliament Attack

There are no known imminent threats to Nassau County, authorities say.

Nassau Police say they are monitoring any local threats as well as increasing patrols at local government buildings, mass transit and houses of worship following the deadly attack near the Houses of Parliament in London on Wednesday.

"Although there are no known imminent threats to Nassau County, police are monitoring these attacks along with federal, state, and local authorities," police said in a press release.

The London Parliament was put on lockdown after a car nearby on Westminster Bridge drove in the direction of pedestrians, causing multiple injuries, according to a BBC report.

According to the BBC, a police officer was fatally stabbed by a man near the parliament building. The man who stabbed the police officer and a woman struck on the bridge were also reportedly killed.

The BBC quoted London police saying that the event would be treated as a "terrorist incident until we know otherwise."

Nassau Police remind residents to call 911 immediately if they see any suspicious activity and can report suspicious social media activity through Text-a-Tip on the Nassau County Crime Stoppers app available free for smartphones and tablets.

“I extend my deepest sympathies to the victims of the London terror attack and their families,” Nassau Executive Edward Mangano said. “While there is no specific threat to Nassau County, we must all remain vigilant in the fight against terror as everyone can help be the eyes and ears for law enforcement.”
