No. 69: Shop Syosset's Souk and Persian Bazaar

In our weekly countdown we are getting an education at about all the foods and flavors from the Middle East and the Mediterranean.

Located on Jackson Avenue just south of Holzapple Plumbing, this unique store has been at this location for over 14 years.

Although you may see a hookah in the window don't let that discourage you from entering this gourmet shop loaded with products that once sampled will have you coming back for more. And if you have a question about items on the shelves, the owner, Farhad Ghasemi, will patiently explain what each foodstuff is and its origins.

Have you ever tried chick pea cookies, dried mulberries, saffron pistachio ice cream, Bulgarian Feta cheese, or rose petal jam?  Well this is the place to expand your palette, be daring, and try delicious delicacies. 

But that's not all, you can find tables full of delectable desserts from Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, and Iran or for something savory try fermented olives, homemade hummus, and possibly Armenian string cheese.

Most items can be found vacuum packed, canned, bottled, or located in the fridge or freezer sections. In addition to that there is bulk nuts, three different types of dates, dried fruits, and of course Jordan almonds.
