No. 79: Continue Getting to Know Your Small Parks
Hidden away in your neighborhood could be a little town park waiting to be discovered.
In our weekly countdown we have been uncovering 15 little pocket parks in the Syosset-Woodbury area with some features to note about each play area. Last week we showed you , today we'll show you the rest from Park No. 7 to Park No. 15.
Here is your tour of parks, starting from where we left off at the southern end of Jackson Avenue heading south:
7. On Robert Street, make a left on Southwood Circle, a right on Belmont Circle, and when you come to Syosset Circle make a right and the park will be halfway up on your left. You will find a nice playset, basketball court and baseball diamond as well as some shady trees for a picnic.

8. On Kathleen Drive East, take your first left on Jean Place and another left on Dorothy Street. You will come upon a park with a playset that also abuts Willets Elementary School giving this park the appearance of a vast space.
9. On Elf Road, make a right on Gary Road which will lead you into Gainsboro Lane. If you didn't notice the chain-link fence and narrow pathway, you would drive right by the two entrances. Hidden behind a circular formation of homes is a park that is the most fun to find. There is a good sized playset and a baseball diamond.

10. Return to Gary Road, then proceed to South Oyster Bay Road by way of Elderberry Road. Head south and immediately past the Northern Parkway entrance ramps make a right on Birchwood Park Drive. Towards the middle of the block you will come to the park. There is a designated play area for ages two to four, another play area for older children, and two basketball courts. You may also enter by Circle Drive.
11. Find your way back to South Oyster Bay Road and drive two blocks south and turn onto Market Drive. When you come to the stop sign, once again you will see a nondescript chain-link fence leading you on a small trail. At the end of the shady path, you will come upon a large park that backs on the Plainview Centre shopping area. There is a playset, baseball diamond, and a basketball court.
12. As you head under the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway (Route 135) overpass make an immediate right on Lark Drive then turn left on Canterbury Road. At the end of the block you will have arrived at the park. There is a playset and basketball court.
13. Go back on Woodbury Road and once you go under the L.I.E., travel two blocks, make a left on Gloria Drive. Take your first right on Jeffrey Place and the park entrance will be right there. There is only a playset but what sets this park apart from the others is a designated trail that leads you to the Syosset Woodbury Community Park.
14. Make your way west on the L.I.E. service road to Robbins Lane. Take a left at the light, head under the expressway overpass and make an immediate right on Marlene Drive. Directly before the Northern State Parkway overpass you will see a park on your left. There is a playset and a basketball court.
15. Continue back to Robbins Lane and one block before you reach Jericho Turnpike, make a left on Ellen Place. The park will come up on your right.
Caution: Most parks have poison ivy along the fences and borders. Check out the photo so that you are aware of which plants to avoid.
We hope you enjoyed your game of park peeking.
