On Sunday, May 5, Brotherhood of North Shore Synagogue will hold its second “Bar Mitzvah Boot Camp for Fathers” program from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. This innovative program, which is open to the public as well as to congregants, was created to provide men with Bar/Bat Mitzvah age children the opportunity to explore and celebrate the spiritual depth and meaning of their child's upcoming Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
During the program, which will be led by congregant Jeff Levine, dads will have an opportunity to learn with other men what it means to be the father of a son or a daughter preparing for a B’nai Mitzvah. This includes understanding what goes on in the service, what takes place in the sanctuary during the service, and why a Bar/Bat Mitzvah is so meaningful for the entire family. All fathers of children who are becoming B’nai Mitzvah are welcome to attend, and no knowledge of Hebrew or Jewish practices is required.
The Bar Mitzvah Boot Camp Program at North Shore Synagogue will be honored with the Jerome Siegel Award, presented by the Men of Reform Judaism (MRJ) at the MRJ convention held in Florida in late June. Jerome Siegel was a long time officer of the Men of Reform Judaism and the award is named in his honor. MRJ is a national organization that works to promote the establishment of affiliated Brotherhoods in Reform temples and stimulate men’s fellowship and interest in Jewish worship, studies and service.
