Pair Arrested After Fatal Overdose: Police

BREAKING: Twelve bags of heroin and a bag of cocaine were among the drugs found in their car Thursday, police say.

LAUREL HOLLOW, NY – Two people were arrested Thursday following an investigation into a recent fatal overdose in Nassau County, Nassau Police said.

Tariq Williams, 34, and Kennyatta Johnson, 28, were arrested in Laurel Hollow after Williams offered to sell heroin for an agreed amount of cash, police said.

The investigation began after a 31-year-old man died from an overdose earlier this month, police said.

Williams, of Amityville, was a passenger in Johnson's car when they were both taken into custody Thursday.

Twelve bags of a tannish powder believed to be heroin, two pieces of a broken yellow Xanax pill, a clear plastic bag containing a white powder believed to be cocaine and a small bag of marijuana were recovered from inside of the car, police said.

Williams is charged with third degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Johnson, of Shirley, is charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth degree criminal facilitation. They were both scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.

A 33-year-old man was arrested Tuesday following an investigation into another fatal heroin overdose that occurred last year.
