Saving in Syosset: The Weekend Edition

Some free (or almost free) events in or around Syosset this weekend.

Each week, we scour local sources to come up with the best deals for local families. This week, we’re heading out of Syosset and featuring some great family-focused events to help you plan your weekend.

1. The Family Fall & Halloween Festival is Saturday afternoon at . From 1pm to 4pm, celebrate with the Town of Oyster Bay and enjoy a U-Pick Pumpkin Patch (one pumpkin per child), Halloween crafts, inflatables, games and more. This event will take place rain or shine, admission is free and costumes are welcomed.

2. Still looking for back to school clothes but don’t want to spend a fortune? The Kids Kloset Consignment Sale is back in Nassau County from Sept. 23 through 25. Featuring over 30,000 quality new and nearly new items for kids, The Kids Kloset is a one-stop shopping experience for everything kid-related. You'll find everything from clothing to toys to baby equipment and everything in between, at up to 90% off retail pricing. Bring the whole family and enjoy the kids playland for free! The sale is taking place at Mitchell Athletic Complex, 1 Charles Lindbergh Boulevard,Uniondale.

3. This Saturday, Sept. 24, the LI Naturally Environmental Fair will take place at Manor Farm (210 Manor Road, Huntington). From 10am to 4pm, you can enjoy live music with a solar-powered stage, check out electric vehicles, learn how to save energy (and money) at home, find out about other ways to go green, and more. This event is free and for all ages.

4. Also on Saturday (rain date Oct. 1), the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium is holding their annual Fall Fair. Your family can learn from conservation and environmental groups, play games, enjoy food and refreshments and fish for trout (children under 12 only), with all fishing gear provided by the hatchery. Admission is included with paid admission to the hatchery.

5. Eat ice cream for a cause and participate in the 10th Annual World’s Largest Ice Cream Social at Long Island Cold Stone Creamery locations. On Sept. 27 from 5pm to 8pm, Cold Stone locations will be giving away a FREE 3-ounce portion of the Sprinkled with Wishes Creation, Sweet Cream Ice Cream mixed with Brownie, Rainbow Sprinkles and Fudge. Guests are encouraged to make donations to the Make-A-Wish foundation during this event. This is the 10th year Cold Stone Creamery has supported the Make-A-Wish Foundation and they have raised over $4 million to help change the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
