South Syosset Jumps on Neighborhood Watch Bandwagon

Inspired by the success of the North Syosset Neighborhood Watch and fueled by reports of burglaries, south Syosset begins their own neighborhood watch group.

 

Before the new year, residents of southern Syosset met at the in their first attempt at starting a neighborhood watch. Inspired by , Patrick Crudo distributed flyers and banded neighbors together for the first of many meetings aimed at keeping the neighborhood safe.

The area the South Syosset Neighborhood Watch would cover includes the Birchwood Park Civic Association of Locust Grove. The area spans the area south of the Northern State Parkway between South Oyster Bay Road and Miller Place.

Eventually, Crudo hopes to collaborate with North Syosset Neighborhood Watch, creating a blanket security system across town.

"If someone breaks into a house up in North Syosset, they can work their way down here," said Crudo at the meeting, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between groups.

Neighbors who attended realized the importance of getting to know one another, to avoid profiling and encourage camaraderie. For the next meeting, those who attended pledged to help by getting the word out to neighbors, bringing a friend to the next meeting, and compiling an email list for alerts in the area.
