Syosset High School Graduate Natalie Portman Takes Home Golden Globe
The actress won a Golden Globe for her performance in the film "Black Swan" Sunday.

Former Syosset resident and 1999 Syosset High School graduate Natalie Portman won the Golden Globe Sunday night for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for her performance in the highly-praised film, Black Swan. Portman received the coveted award at the 68th annual ceremony in Los Angeles.
This is Portman’s second Golden Globe; she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture for the drama Closer in 2005.
Portman, born in Israel, moved to the U.S. when she was three and lived with her parents in Washington, D.C. They relocated to Connecticut and finally settled in Syosset in 1990. At the age of 13, she made her film debut in The Professional. It was in 1999 when she received worldwide acclaim as Queen Amidala in the popular prequel Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

After graduation of Syosset High School, Portman was accepted to and attended Harvard University where she studied psychology and graduated in 2003.
Portman’s next film, No Strings Attached, will be released later this month, and Your Highness, which is to be released in April. She has also been cast in Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming adaptation of Thor.
