Woodbury Man Charged With Stealing From And Coercing Woman: NCPD

Police say the man intimidated the woman into giving him $100 and her phone number and then attempted to extort additional money from her.

WOODBURY, NY--A Woodbury man was arrested on Sunday and charged for an incident that occurred on Friday, May 10, around 1:13 p.m. in Woodbury.

Nassau County detectives say Peter Cannetti, 34, approached a female driver, 18, in the parking lot of 7956 Jericho Turnpike while she was driving her car. According to police, Cannetti accused her of striking him with her car and injuring his foot and proceeded to intimidate and coerce her into giving him $100. Police say Cannetti threatened to contact the police and the victim's parents, obtained her phone number and then made several attempts to contact her to extort additional money.

The victim reported the incident to the police. Following an investigation, detectives found Cannetti on Sunday in his car in the parking lot of 7977 Jericho Turnpike, Woodbury. Detectives say after they pulled behind Cannetti with their lights activated, he quickly reversed his car in an attempt to escape and struck the unmarked vehicle causing minor damage. Cannetti was placed under arrest without further incident, and no injuries were reported.

Cannetti is charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, attempted fourth-degree grand larceny, second-degree coercion and fourth-degree criminal mischief. He was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned on May 24 at First District Court, Hempstead.
