Man stabbed in Clinton Street fight in Syracuse; suspect arrested and charged (cnycentral.com) — An early-morning fight on the 500 block of Clinton Street in Syracuse left a 32-year-old man stabbed in the chest and back, though he's expected to survive after treatment at Upstate University Hospital. Police quickly intervened, arrested 47-year-old Syracuse resident Joseph Derby on assault and weapon charges, and are asking anyone with information to contact their Criminal Investigations Division.

Plane makes emergency landing at Syracuse airport; 4 passengers checked by medics (syracuse.com) — An American Airlines flight from Chicago to Albany diverted to Syracuse Hancock International Airport Saturday afternoon after the cabin began blowing hot air, prompting an emergency landing. Four passengers felt unwell and were checked by airport medics, but no one needed hospital care and airport operations continued normally while officials sought more details from the airline.
   

3. Downtown buzzes with the return of Syracuse Football (cnycentral.com) — Syracuse fans packed the JMA Wireless Dome as the Orange crushed New Hampshire 66-3, kicking off the season with a huge win that energized downtown businesses and bar crowds. Locals are hopeful this dominant start, plus new talent, signals a turnaround from last year's 3-9 record, with another home game against California coming up next Saturday afternoon.
   

4. Inside the New York State Fair infirmary: How medical professionals keep fairgoers safe (rochesterfirst.com) — If you're heading to the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse, on-site doctors and nurses from Upstate University Hospital staff an expanded infirmary with more than 20 beds. Working closely with AMR ambulances, they treat hundreds of fairgoers on-site each year, easing pressure on local hospitals and offering quick help daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. through Labor Day.
