Former Wrestling Coach Sentenced For Rape

He was a teacher in the Bronx and had been an assistant wrestling coach at Edgemont High School.

TARRYTOWN, NY — A former high school wrestling coach, who entered a plea of guilty to two counts of third-degree rape, was sentenced Oct. 9. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said Tyler Sick, 30, of North Carolina, received 10 years probation for having sex with a victim under the age of 17 in Tarrytown and Greenburgh.

Sick was sentenced Westchester County Court Judge Susan Cacace.

As part of the conditions of his probation, Sick had to surrender his teaching license and will have to register as a sex offender. He was a teacher in the Bronx and had been an assistant wrestling coach at Edgemont High School.

The sentence was agreed to at the request of the victim's family, officials said.

Sick petitioned the court to allow him to move permanently to North Carolina where he has family. He was a Tarrytown resident at the time of the accusations.

Scarpino said it is now up to the North Carolina state probation authorities as to whether they will accept the transfer of his probation.

Sick must remain in Westchester County until North Carolina reaches a decision.
