Greenburgh and the world mourn the loss of Wayne Lewis of Atlantic Starr fame
Greenburgh named a street in honor of Atlantic Starr in 2017
Greenburgh and the world is mourning the passing of Wayne Lewis – a Greenburgh legend and founder of Atlantic Starr. As Joseph Boykin said in a Facebook post Wayne was part of a “group filled with super talented, beautiful human beings. His gift was immense writing, producing, playing and entertaining and thrilling fans and audiences all over the world. He loved to spread love with the music he blessed us with.”
In 2017 the Greenburgh Town Board created an honorary road designation for a road between Knollwood Road and Hillside Ave as Atlantic Starr Way
Atlantic Starr began in Greenburgh, New York with drummer Porter Carroll Jr., bassist Clifford Archer, percussionist, and flautist Joseph Phillips, and three brothers: David Lewis (vocals and guitar), Wayne Lewis (keyboards and vocals), and Jonathan Lewis (keyboards and trombone and William Sudderth III among others.
Throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, Atlantic Starr scored several hits on the R&B charts. "Secret Lover, Always and other beautiful songs became among the most popular musical ballads in the world. Their music scored a No 1 pop (and R & B) hit in the world.
The Greenburgh Town Board will begin our meeting on Wednesday with a moment of silence in honor and in memory of an international legend and a terrific human being who was kind and modest who made Greenburgh proud. He will continue to inspire. Those who knew him are devastated by this sad news.
