Multiple Car Accident on Tappan Zee Bridge

Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene.

A multiple car accident was reported on the Tappan Zee Bridge around 5:12 p.m. on Friday evening.

The accident occurred on the southbound lanes, around milepost 14.2. At least two cars were involved in the accident, according to Betsy Graham of the New York State Thruway Authority.

"They did have the left lane and the center lane blocked," she said, which significantly slowed traffic.

The accident was cleared by 5:56 p.m.

Graham added the time of the accident indicated rush hour traffic.

"Also, being a Friday, there is typically a higher volume," she said, "especially during the summertime."

Tarrytown-based New York State Police and the Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene.

No information has been released regarding the number of vehicles involved or injuries sustained at this time.
