Pizzeria Debuts on Cortlandt Steet in Sleepy Hollow

Family owned Viana Pizza & Pasta's menu is not just about pizza. It offers sandwiches, salads, wings, chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks.

Sleepy Hollow's newest eatery is a cosy family owned, corner pizzeria named Viana Pizza & Pasta.

Viana opened on March 7 at 91 Cortlandt Street by Frank Occhipinti, a Sleepy Hollow resident. Its signature pizza, called a Viana Special, includes mozzarella, arugula,  bruschetta, extra virgin olive oil, Balsamic vinegar and shavings of pecorino romano (one of Italy's oldest cheeses). It sells for $16.75.

Also among its pizzas are buffalo chicken, salad, Sicilian pizza and  a cheese/tomato based pie with pineapple topping named Hawaiian. An 18-inch cheese/tomato sauce pie costs $13.

Besides pizza, the restaurant's offerings include chicken wings, wraps, salads, chicken tenders, Jamaican beef patties and assorted beverages; its sandwich list has veal and eggplant parmigiana. Wraps are priced at $6.75, a meatball parmigiana hero sells for $6.50 and a serving of mozzarella sticks costs $4.25.

The staff includes Occhipinti's daughter Nicole, his wife Joyce, Alex Bermudez and Tino Gonzalez;  all are residents of Sleepy Hollow except Bermudez who expects to move to Sleepy Hollow shortly.

Occhipinti is a former assistant building inspector for Eastchester and has worked as a property manager for communities in Westchester County.

"This is something I've always wanted to do," he said on opening day.

A neighborhood tavern called the Dominican Club was previously located on the premises now occupied by Viana Pizza & Pasta.
