Police Beat - Tarrytown: Possible Terrorist Text Message, Grand Larceny at Sweet Grass

Here's a summary of incidents in Tarrytown from Jan. 31, 2010 to Feb. 6, 2011.

The  reported the following incidents:

Feb. 6

4:46 a.m. A verbal dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend was reported in the area of White Street. Officers located the arguing parties and noted that no violations or physical altercations had occurred. The man and woman went home for the evening.

Feb. 5

12:25 p.m. A Tarrytown police officer called for backup in containing a disorderly White Plains man who was causing a disturbance in front of the Music Hall. The man was arrested and given a return court date.

12:59 a.m. Police stopped a Nyack man driving a Toyota Solara for a traffic infraction on White Plains Road. A check of the man's license revealed that it had been revoked with two noted suspensions. The man was arrested and the vehicle was towed. He posted $100 bail and was released to a responsible party.

Feb. 4

1:52 p.m. A Sleepy Hollow man walked into police headquarters reporting that he had received a text from an unknown individual trying to recruit him into a possible terrorist group. Much of the police report was redacted, but the information was forwarded to the White Plains FBI office.

10:51 a.m. A Sheldon Avenue man gave a bad check to a petroleum company that made an oil delivery to his home. When the check was found to be linked to a closed account, the business filed a complaint with the Tarrytown Police Department. Police made contact with the resident who agreed to come to police headquarters and make a full restitution payment.

Feb. 3

4:29 p.m. A caller reported a taxi cab parked in a handicapped spot at the Bridge Plaza. Officers arrived and found that the taxi was parked illegally and also had a suspended registration. The car was towed and the driver was taken to headquarters and issued a return court date.

9:09 a.m. The rear windshield wiper blade on a Subaru was intentionally broken off by an unknown individual sometime overnight. The incident occurred on Tappan Landing Road. A report on the incident was filed.

Feb. 2

3:40 p.m. Sweet Grass Grill was the target of Grand Larceny. An unknown individual stole $1,060, three payroll checks totalling $360, an induction burner and a set of keys to the premises. The incident likely occurred between Jan. 29 and Jan. 31.

11:25 a.m. A bicycle was reported stolen from in front of the YMCA while its owner was inside working out. A case was begun and forwarded to the detective division.

Feb. 1

11:41 p.m. A taxi driver called police to report that he gave a ride to an Elizabeth Street resident who then refused to pay and locked himself in his home. Officers arrived at the residence and placed the man under arrest for theft of services. He was later released with a court date.

10:24 a.m. A father and son dispute was reported on Deertrack Lane. The son, a juvenile, struck his father with a closed fist, causing swelling and bruising. The youth was arrested and was later released on $500 bail. The youth is not staying in Tarrytown while his court case proceeds.

Jan. 31

1:12 p.m. A Franklin Courts woman asked police for an order of protection after numerous threatening phone calls from an individual who said they were planning on beating her up. The woman was advised that a protection order could only be issued if an arrest was made. The woman refused to give a written statement and decided not to press charges in the matter.

11:08 a.m. A laptop and a mobile phone were reported stolen from a vehicle that had been in Tarrytown. The owner of the items said he had been at a number of locations and couldn't pinpoint when the items went missing. The value of the missing items were estimated at about $1,475. The incident was forwarded to the detective division.
