Shop Talk with River View Wine's William Arroyo

We corner one local shopkeeper in this biweekly series, posing to them five quick and spontaneous questions.

They are the people that bind together this town, the diligent business owners, reporting to work in any weather – including this week’s stifling heat – to bring their goods and services to the people.

In the interest of supporting local businesses and getting to know these most essential players in our community, we will corner one shopkeeper every other week and ask him/her five quick questions about anything that comes to mind on the fly.

Know someone who deserves the spotlight? Have a question you’d want to pose? Let us know. We’ll be making the rounds from Beekman, Main Street, Broadway and beyond. And as an added bonus, we'll ask these shopkeepers to extend a special to you, our most essential Patch readers and shoppers. So buy local and go say hello to...

WA: Some nice summer whites. There’s the refreshing and light Italian wine called Falanghina [$14.99]; an Albrino from Spain [La Cana, $16.99]; and a Txakolina from the Basque region of Spain [Berroia, $18.99], the only place they make this, and it only comes out in the summer.

2. Can you share something people might not know about you?

WA: I was an IT guy before this, a software programmer. After 26 years in a cubicle, I wanted to be my own boss, do my own thing.

3. And how has being your own boss for the 2.5 years you've been in business treated you so far?

WA: It’s much harder work physically than I was doing before in the corporate world, but much more relaxing and peaceful work. i have a ten-minute commute, I don’t have to wake up at 5am, and I like the interaction with the public.

4. Who’s been the most interesting member of the public to come through here?

WA: Keanu Reeves and James Caan stopped in one night when they were filming [] last January.

5. What’s your drink of choice?

WA: Always a nice, full-bodied red with a steak. Any cabernet is great.

*Finally, Arroyo has been kind enough to extend a 5% discount to Patch readers (who mention they saw this article) on any one of the three summer white wines listed in question 1. Enjoy!*
