sidewalk planned from Westchester Community College, Knollwood Rd, to 119

I have been pushing for this sidewalk for over a decade. Grateful that NYS is awarding $1,000,000 for this initiative

I am so excited!!! Governor Hochul announced that NYS will award a $1 million grant to build sidewalks on Knollwood Road—from Westchester Community College heading to Route 119. This new sidewalk will enable seniors who live at Mayfair Apartments and students at the college to safely walk to Route 119, bus stops and the Greenburgh Library.

I have been pushing for this sidewalk for at least a decade (see two links below). I used to teach a course in government at Westchester Community College and organized student rallies and petition drives asking for the sidewalk. Am thrilled that the Governor and NYS listened to the hundreds of students who have been asking for the sidewalk for year.

Greenburgh is embarked on a major effort to make the town pedestrian friendly. A sidewalk is being designed for West Hartsdale Ave from Central Ave to the Greenburgh Library. Construction should take place in 2026/2027. Within a few years pedestrians will be able to walk from the Hartsdale train station to the Community College -using sidewalks. We are also building a sidewalk on Dobbs Ferry Road this summer from Knollwood to 119.
