Vacant Spaces Update: A Soccer Shop It Is
An occasional feature - as vacate spaces surface - asking what the community would like to see open in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.
Faster than we could utter the words "Vacant Spaces," the space at 40 Main Street, Tarrytown was indeed taken off the market.
Thanks to our reader Colleen who passed along the rumor, we are here to confirm that yes, a soccer sporting goods/lifestyle shop is coming to town.

Danny D'Angelo, owner of of Cedar Street, Dobbs Ferry, is signing the lease this very day to move his goods and clothing upriver. He is still about 2% undecided about closing his current shop, mildly entertaining the idea of keeping both, but "having two shops four miles apart seems unlikely."
His current lease is up at the end of April, so D'Angelo's timeline is roughly to start renovating the Main Street location by the end of this month for a move-in date of early Spring.

"It's the next step," D'Angelo said. "Dobbs Ferry has been great, but Tarrytown is so vibrant. You need people walking by as a retail store, you need foot traffic and Tarrytown has that."
The store will sell soccer gear as well as "products that don't scream 'soccer'" like Puma and Nike sneakers, work-out gear, jackets, flip flops and tee-shirts.
"I'm definitely excited," D'Angelo said. "It's such a great spot. My vision was to get to Tarrytown eventually. It just came up and I couldn't pass it up."

And in other Vacant Spaces (or not) news, some of you may have noticed that the former Mint space is already under construction. It's going to the dogs. proprietor Hassan Jarane confirmed that he sold the eight years left on his lease to someone who wants to open something of a hotdog/sausage shop.
"More of a store," said Jarane, than a restaurant. More on Main? They now serve hot dogs at the bar around the corner at too. Is there a huge hot dog phenomenom happening here?

While we were sniffing around Main Street, we noticed a 50% Off Everything sale sign in the window of . Hoping this is indeed just a sale and not another vacant space to come. Colleen? We'll report back...
