Vacant Spaces: What Would You Like to See Open in the Tarrytown Centre?

An occasional feature - as vacate spaces surface - asking what the community would like to see open in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.

Last week we asked if anyone wants to rent space in the sunny floor of offices at Franklin and South Broadway.

Now we're back to our regularly scheduled tour of vacant storefronts, asking the public: what do you want to see here, what's likely to come instead, do you have any memories of this space from ages ago, and pretty much anything else that comes up along the way.

Next stop: 138 Wildey Street

The former site of Van Tassel Cleaners, an old family name familar to those who know the movie and/or read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Van Tassel used to live in the Van Tassel building on Beekman, then it came to the Tarrytown Centre complex, and now it's snubbed adjacency to McDonald's to be closer to Walgreens at the other side of the plaza.

Between Dunkin Donuts and the big drug store chain, Van Tassel has painted their new walls a vibrant grassy green (we like to call it "Patch" green), and is enjoying their roomier digs.

Next door to the former Van Tassel space a sushi restaurant is en route. But, still this narrow endspace remains up for grabs. What do you you think the complex/this side of town is missing? Tell us in the comments.

Meanwhile, in the strange/sad news category, up the road in Sleepy Hollow, there's the Palmas Brazilian Grill on Clinton we wrote about a mere few weeks ago, interviewing co-owner Sam Masini. Then a reader commented that the phone number was wrong. So Patch went knocking (twice) to find out the number and found the door locked the first time and the owner of the building putzing around the empty dining room the second!

Bizarrely, after just some months under the old regime, the restaurant is apparently transitioning now to yet another management team who are going to see if they make a go of it. This time with a liquor license, as it just came through. Patch will try to find former co-owner Masini and find out what happened (and why did he go through the Patch interview?)

Stay tuned, and weigh in on the ex-Tassel space below.
