White Plains Performing Arts Center Unveils New Theatre Season

Gala celebration took place Tuesday, September 27

Theatre is alive and well and thriving at The White Plains Performing Arts Center. On Tuesday, September 27, the Center hosted its annual Season Opening Celebration, hosted by the Honorable Thomas M. Roach, mayor of White Plains. The Chair of the event was Councilman John M. Martin, Esq., vice president and general counsel of All New York Title Agency, Inc.

The gala began at 6:30pm with a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception to a packed house of the Center’s supporters and local dignitaries. At 7:30 pm, the entertainment portion of the evening featured a preview of the upcoming Mainstage Season including: Cats, the popular musical composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot, December 9 – 18 & 28-30; Lend Me A Tenor, a lighthearted, rollicking farce written by Ken Ludwig, March 9 – 18, 2012; and The Secret Garden, a musical based on the 1911 novel of the same name by Frances Hodgson Burnett, May 11-20, 2012.

In planning the 2011/12 lineup, Jeremy Quinn, producing artistic director for the Center, said “There are not that many places to see professional equity plays in Westchester. I like to choose shows that ran on Broadway in the recent past so that (area residents) have a chance to see them in their own backyard.”  This is Mr. Quinn’s debut as the Center’s producing artistic director; since 2008, he has headed the Conservatory Theatre, the Center’s educational youth theatre program, beneficiary of the evening’s proceeds.
