STONY BROOK, NY — Free Pizza will be given out Saturday at Station Pizza & Brew in memory of a man who died from a drug overdose as a way to raise awareness about opioid addiction.

The event was organized to remember Alex Sutton, who died of a heroin/fentanyl overdose in 2018, on what would have been his 35th birthday, the Times Beacon Record reported.

There will be free pizza and a small drink for the first 100 customers, along with Narcan training and kits offered by the Suffolk County Police Department, according to posts on Facebook.

Sutton’s mother, Carole Trottere, told TBR that "every death from overdose affects so many people … parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, and colleagues."

"It’s like a spider web of grief for those left behind,” she said. “Fentanyl is the deadliest drug to ever hit the streets and is responsible for nearly 70% of nationwide drug deaths. I want to plead with anyone thinking about it to not spin that Roulette wheel. Don’t take a chance. It may sound silly to say that death is permanent, but it’s the truth. There’s no do-over.”

The will run from 12 to 5 p.m.
