Reward Offered: Police Seek Yaphank Hit-and-Run Driver

Pedestrian was hit by an SUV that fled the scene last week.

Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying and locating the driver of an SUV that struck a pedestrian and fled the scene in Yaphank last week.

Police say a man was walking on the northbound shoulder of Yaphank Middle Island Road, between Main Street and the Middle Island Country Club, when he was struck by the SUV on Jan. 18 at 6 p.m.

The vehicle that fled the scene is possibly a 2002 or 2003 charcoal gray Toyota 4Runner, similar to the one in the photo above, police said. The passenger-side mirror broke off at the scene and the vehicle may have sustained damage to the rear passenger side quarter panel, police said.

The pedestrian was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
