Simons Retains Status as Richest Long Islander

East Setauket's Jim Simons is one of four Long Islanders on Forbes magazine's list of the world's billionaires – and is the wealthiest one among those four, according to a report published Thursday in Newsday.

Simons, 73, is the No. 82 wealthiest person in the world and the No. 31 richest in America with a net worth of $10.7 billion. The former Stony Brook University math professor started hedge fund powerhouse Renaissance Technologies in 1982 and in 2011 announced . Last year, Forbes ranked Simons in America.
