Stony Brook University Class Of 2020 To Be Honored Virtually
A virtual convocation and recognition ceremony is scheduled for Friday, as graduates earned a combined 7,190 degrees and certificates.

STONY BROOK, NY — Stony Brook University is slated to honor the Class of 2020 with a virtual convocation and recognition ceremony, the university announced in a news release. The celebration is scheduled for noon Friday.

As the coronavirus pandemic has kept large gatherings at bay, Stony Brook University is still celebrating its graduating Class of 2020. The Virtual Degree Conferral Celebration will invite students, families, and friends to a live stream event in which Interim President Michael Bernstein and university deans will confer degrees, according to the school.

Students from 67 countries and 40 states will be represented in the Class of 2020 and range in age from 18 to 71. The new graduates will officially join more than 200,000 Stony Brook University alumni living around the world.
Degrees will be bestowed in the following categories:

- 4,500 Bachelor’s Degrees
- 1,925 Master’s Degrees
- 375 Doctorate Degrees
- 125 Medical Degrees
- 35 Doctor of Dental Surgery Degrees
- 230 Certificates
In addition to the university’s main convocation and recognition ceremony, individual department convocations will also take place. For a complete list of departmental graduations, see the university’s special convocation and recognition page.
The Virtual Degree Conferral Celebration will also be available for viewing on the school's Commencement website after the event is streamed live.
