Crosstown Bike Lanes are Coming to the Upper East Side

Bike lanes are coming to 70th, 71st, 77th and 78th street​s in July.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY -- After months of debate among Upper East Side residents, the New York City Department of Transportation is going forward with a plan to add four crosstown bike lanes to the neighborhood, Streetsblog NYC first reported.

The DOT will start to install painted bike lanes on 70th, 71st, 77th and 78th streets in July, Streetsblog reported. In May, the DOT presented a plan for the bike lines at a Community Board 8 meeting. The community board voted down six possible bike lanes, but the DOT is going ahead with four lanes anyway.
