Former Rep. Maloney Endorses East Sider In NY-12 Race
NY-12 is shaping up to be an East Side versus West Side race.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Former Upper East Side Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney has endorsed Assemblymember Alex Bores in New York’s 12th Congressional District race, backing the Democratic candidate in what is expected to be a closely watched contest.
The endorsement comes just two days after Bores' fiercest competitor, Upper West Side Assemblymember Micah Lasher, was endorsed by Congressman Jerry Nadler, an Upper West Sider who won the seat from Maloney four years ago when the districts were combined.
Maloney, who represented the district for three decades, announced her endorsement Tuesday, giving Bores a significant boost in the hotly contested primary.

“I represented this district for thirty years. I know what this seat demands. That's why I'm endorsing Alex Bores," Maloney said. “Alex is already the most effective new lawmaker, according to the nonpartisan Center for Effective Lawmaking. He's passed 27 bills and delivered over $50 million for our neighborhoods. No one else in this race has that record," Maloney said.
Bores, 35, has built a profile in Albany around technology policy and funding wins for his district, with his campaign highlighting his work on artificial intelligence and economic issues.

"Carolyn Maloney fought like crazy for her constituents every single day, and she set the gold standard for what effective leadership looks like," Bores said. "To have her support – as a friend and a political leader – is an incredible honor. It is also a mandate: To carry forward her legacy of delivering for the people who need it most."
Twelve Democrats have filed to run in New York’s 12th Congressional District, including Bores, Lasher, former judge Jami Floyd, Christopher Diep, Mathew Shurka, civil rights attorney Laura Dunn, public health advocate Nina Schwalbe, Kennedy scion Jack Schlossberg, Alan Pardee, Micah Bergdale, George Conway, and Liam Elkind.
NY-12 includes the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Midtown, Hell’s Kitchen, Central Park, Union Square, Chelsea and Stuyvesant Town.
While the district is solidly Democratic, eight Republican and independent candidates have also filed, according to Ballotpedia.
The primary election is June 23, with the general election set for Nov. 3.
