Michelin-Star Chef Opens Upper East Side Wine Bar

Danny Brown's Charc has opened on East 84th Street between Second and First avenues.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The chef behind Queens' first Michelin-starred restaurant opened his new Upper East Side wine bar and restaurant Wednesday night.

Danny Brown's Charc, located on East 84th Street between First and Second avenues, will serve up a menu featuring selected meats and cheeses as well as sandwiches and larger plates, according to its website. The new eatery will also offer a long list of booze including eight cocktails, eight beers, 10 wines by the glass and an impressive list of wines by the bottle.

Charc is born out of Brown's X Bar Bistro, which occupied the same small space on the Upper East Side. The 25-seat restaurant soft opened on Nov. 4, according to a post on its Facebook page.

Some signature menu items include a chef's salad with speck, coppa, la tur, gem lettuce, endive, radicchio, olive oil, lemon and togarashi and a spaghetti “carbonara” with crème fraîche, smoked salmon, egg yolk and caviar, according to photos on Charc's new Instagram page.

Brown's new restaurant will be open from 5:30-10:30 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, 5:30-11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and closed on Sundays, according to its website. The acclaimed chef won a Michelin star in 2011 for Danny Brown Wine Bar and Kitchen. It was the first restaurant in Queens to be awarded the prestigious culinary honor.

Danny Brown Wine Bar and Kitchen closed in 2015 after its landlord decided not to renew the restaurant's lease, the New York Times reported at the time.
