Upper East Side Restaurant 'Big Daddy's' Will Reopen as 'Duke's Original Roadhouse'

Say goodbye to Big Daddy's, the diner on the corner of East 83rd Street and 2nd Avenue.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Upper East Side diner Big Daddy's has served up its last burgers and shakes. The business on East 83rd Street and 2nd Avenue has been shuttered and has brown paper obstructing the view into its windows.

Big Daddy's closed Sept. 5 according to a flyer seen in one of the eatery's windows, but the space won't be inactive for long. A new restaurant and bar named Duke's Original Roadhouse will open in the vacated space in September, according to the flyer.

There is a silver lining for fans of Big Daddy's. The flyer simply says Big Daddy's is moving, so it may open up again on the Upper East Side. In addition, the restaurant's two other locations, in Gramercy Park and on the Upper West Side, will remain open.
