Plans Filed for 200 Amsterdam Avenue, Soon-to-Be Tallest Building on Upper West Side

The towering apartment complex will rise 642 feet high and contain 112 residential units.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Permits were filed this week with the city Department of Buildings for an apartment tower that will be the Upper West Side's tallest building when constructed.

Architect Howard Elkus filed building plans for 200 Amsterdam Avenue on behalf of developer SJP Properties. The hulking 51-story tower will rise 642 feet high and contain 112 residential units, according to the building plans. The lot is currently occupied by a synagogue, and plans for its demolition have been approved by the Department of Buildings.

The tower will be a mixed-use building, with 583,294 square feet zoned for residential use and 3,016 square feet zoned for a medical office, according to building plans.

If each of the planned 112 apartment units were the same size the average unit would be around 5207 square feet. In addition the spacious apartment units, the building will feature many amenities such as a yoga room, virtual golf, a pool, a sauna, locker rooms and whatever a "tween room" is.
