City to Improve Bus Stops Along Riverside Park
Improvements to increase pedestrian safety and handicap access are planned for bus stops along Riverside Drive on the Upper West Side.
UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The M5 bus line, which shuttles passengers through Riverside Park on the Upper West Side, is set to receive improvements to several bus stops on Riverside Drive.
Representatives from the Parks Department presented plans this month to improve bus stops at 11 intersections of Riverside Drive between West 100th and West 122nd streets, New York YIMBY reported. The plans were approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission, but because the area is not a historic district the LPC is simply an advisory body. The plans must still be approved by the Public Design Commission, according to the report.
The $1.8 million improvement project will improve pedestrian safety at the bus stops and make all the bus stops compliant with ADA regulations, according to the presentation. Some of the bus stops will also be moved slightly and streets will be repaved wherever it's necessary, YIMBY reported.
